Tarō Kanō (嘉納 太郎 Kanō Tarō) is the Japanese Minister of Defense and Minister for Problem Measures of the Special Region who was also an otaku acquaintance of Yōji Itami in the past that his Otaku interests are well known among the Japanese public.


He is shown to disagree with Morita a lots in term of handling pressures on superpowers. During Operation Jade Wall, he manages to boot Morita out of the office with the approval of the Senate.

After a four years time-skip, he retired from politics and he eventually united with Itami and his gang along with Pina when the Gate reopened at the Comiket in Akihabara.

Appearance

Kanō is a middle aged man with short hair that is slicked back.

He wears a formal black suit.

Personality

Not much is known about Kanō's personality, but he takes his duties very seriously.

As an old friend of Yōji Itami, he is a talkative person who is an otaku, enjoying his conversation with Itami.

History

Plot

Kanō reunited with Yōji Itami at Akihabara, talking about their past, and he instructed Itami to follow the plan afterwards.

Etymology

  • The name Tarō means "thick, big" (太) (ta) and "son" (郎) ().
  • Tarō's surname Kanō means "applaud, praise, esteem, happy, auspicious" (嘉) (ka) and "settlement, obtain, reap, pay/payment, supply, store" (納) ().

Trivia

  • Kanō's backstory and Otaku interest may be a reference to the controversial former Prime Minister and current cabinet member Tarō Asō , who is also a widely known fan of anime and manga.
