Diet of Japan Kokkai 2009

The National Diet Building in real life.

The National Diet is the national legislative body of Japan, and has the power to draft and pass new legislation, as well as appointing the Prime Minister. The Diet has two houses, the lower house, the House of Representatives, who serve four-year terms, and the upper house, the House of Councilors, who serve six-year terms. Elections for Representatives are held every four years, and Councilors every three years, with half of the members of the house up for election in an election year.

The National Diet meet at the National Diet Building in Nagatacho, Chiyoda, Tokyo.

After the Attack on the Coda Convoy, Yōji Itami is summoned to the Diet along with three Special Region residents, Tuka Luna Marceau, Lelei La Lalena, and Rory Mercury. During the session, Itami is questioned by Mizuki Kōhara, a Diet member who attempts to criticize Itami and the JSDF, and let them take the blame for the 150 casualties of the villagers fleeing from the Flame Dragon.

All three of the residents of the Special Region, however, maintain (Rory quite vehemently so) that, in fact, if it weren't for the intervention of the JSDF, the entire population of Coda Village would have been killed.
