Attrition warfare is a military strategy consisting of beliigerent attempts to win a war by wearing down the enemy to the point of collapse through continuous losses in personnel and materiel. The war will usually be won by the side with greater such resources.

This type of warfare is the basic tactic used by the Imperial Army. Due to the sheer size of the Empire's army, this kind of warfare was effective against its previous opponents, as the Empire was able to outlast them.

However, this kind of tactic becomes extremely detrimental to the Empire when directed against a modern army like the JSDF. Modern military theorists and strategists have viewed attrition warfare as something to be avoided. In the sense that attrition warfare represents an attempt to grind down an opponent and its superior numbers, represents the opposite of the usual principles of war in which one attempts to achieve decisive victories by using minimal necessary resources and in minimal amount of time, through maneuvers, concentration of force, surprise, and the like.

Due to its superior weaponry and technology, the JSDF was able to defeat the Imperial Army in every encounter, despite the overwhelming difference in numbers. At the Second Battle of Alnus Hill, 10,000 Japanese troops were able to easily crush the Allied Army of 100,000, causing an estimated 60,000 in casulaties. A single JSDF soldier armed with a rifle can kill dozens of soldier in a fight while one armed with a machine gun can mow down hundreds, legions of soldiers and monsters which can overwhelm a small reconnaissance team of JSDF can quickly be decimated by mortar, artillery and napalm.
